When I first started playing I was a little confused, because the game kept giving me money but it was not gold. It was my country money, lei, because I play from Romania. For the first days I just looked at it growing and I had no real idea what I was supposed to do with it. Nobody told me, so maybe this small guide helps another new player who feels the same way.
So first, why do you even have this country money. A lot of the rewards you get in the beginning are paid in your national currency and not in gold. The daily bonuses, and some of the small actions, they give you lei, or euro, or whatever your country uses. Gold is the premium money, the one that actually has real value, and it comes to you much slower. So in the start it is completely normal to see your local money go up while your gold stays almost nothing. Do not panic about this, it is the same for everybody at the beginning.
The place where the two kinds of money connect is the exchange. On the deposit page you will find two buttons for it, one on each side under the deposit area, and honestly I almost did not notice them for a week. When you open the exchange you can change your country money into gold, and also gold back into country money if one day you need that direction. The part I liked the most is that the change happens at the real rate, and there is no commission taken from you. So you are not paying some hidden fee every time, what the rate shows is what you actually get.
My advice, from a beginner to a beginner, is do not run to the exchange every five minutes for tiny amounts. Let your country money collect a little first, then change a nice amount into gold when you actually need it for something, like an upgrade or a purchase you have been planning. Changing very small amounts all the time just makes you feel busy, but it does not really move you forward.
The other thing I understood a bit late is that gold is the money you want to keep for the important moments. Country money is more for the everyday small things and for trading, but gold is the real progress. So now when I convert, I always try to have a reason for it, not just to watch the number change on the screen.
And one more little habit, take a quick look at the rate before you convert a bigger amount, just so you know more or less how much gold you will receive. There is no fee, but it is still nice to not be surprised.
That is really all there is to it. It looked complicated to me at the start, but it is honestly two clicks. You collect your country money from the bonuses and actions, you send it through the exchange at the real rate with no fee, and now you have gold you can actually use to grow.
