Hello, Duy here from Vietnam. My first article, so please be kind. I want to talk about the thing most new players skip in every game, including me: the tutorial. The little arrows and popups that appear when you first open your town. I know the feeling, you want to click around and discover by yourself, tutorials are boring, we are all experts, right? Well. I skipped it, i got confused, i wasted my starting resources on wrong things, and eventualy i came crawling back to the guide. So let me tell you what the guided tour actually gives you, because it is not a normal tutorial, it litteraly builds your early town together with you.
First thing, the moment the guide starts you recieve a welcome pack: a full tank of energy and a big box of building materials and raw resources. This is not a small gift. It is everything you need to build your way through the whole tour without running short. When i understood this, my whole opinion changed. The game is not just showing you buttons, it is handing you the fuel and the bricks and saying, come on, we build together.
And what do you build? Real things, not fake tutorial props. The tour walks you through the essential chain of the early game. It shows you your energy bar and how energy comes back over time. It explains your money. It takes you through recruiting people from the City Hall, becuase without citizens nothing works in this game. It shows you the warehouse where all your goods live. And then, the good part: it walks you step by step through building an actual GOLD MINE, running a mining process, and collecting your very first gold. Your first real gold, mined during the tutorial, with materials the tutorial gave you for free.
Think about that for a second. Players like me who skipped the guide spent days confused about how production even works, wich building does what, why is my energy gone. Meanwhile the players who followed the arrows already had houses, a market, a gold mine, and gold in their balance, all built with gifted materials. Who is the expert now?
Some practical things i learned about how the guide behaves, because these questions come up:
You can leave in the middle. Real life exists, i know. If you leave the town screen in the middle of the tour, the guide simply pauses and waits for you. When you come back it continues from where you stopped. So there is no pressure to finish everything in one sitting.
You can restart it, but be careful. There is an option to start the tour over from step one. It clears everything the guide built so far, the houses, the market, the gold mine and the upgrades, and it refills your raw materials so you can build it all again. BUT, and this is important, any gold or coins you actually spent during the guide are not refunded. So restarting is for people who really messed something up, not something to do casually just to farm the starter pack again. It does not work like that.
The later steps are the most valuble ones. Near the end the tour shows you things like taking a job, wich for a beginner is honestly the most reliable way to earn some money every day while your town is still tiny, and where to find help when you are stuck. Most people who quit the tour early miss exactly the steps that connect your little town to the bigger economy of the game.
Now, i want to be honest about why i am writing this. In the beginning i thought skipping the tutorial made me faster. Actually it made me slower. Every mechanic the tour teaches, i had to learn later by making the mistake myself. The tour teaches about energy? I learned by wasting mine. It teaches about the warehouse? I learned when my storage was full and goods disappeared. It builds a gold mine with you? I built mine wrong, in a bad spot, after spending materials on useless things first.
The game is deep, there is an economy, markets, politics, production chains, and all of it lands on your head at once when you are new. The guided tour is the developers answer to that, it takes the five most important systems and makes you touch each one with your own hands, with free materials, in the right order. That is the best kind of teaching in my opinion. Not reading, doing.
So my advice, very simple. If you just signed up: follow the arrows. All the way to the end. Do not stop when it feels obvious, some of the best parts are at the end. If you already skipped it like me, check if the guide is still waiting for you on your town screen, it pauses rather than dissapearing, so you might still be able to continue where you left it.
The arrows are not treating you like a baby. The arrows come with free stuff and build a gold mine with you. Follow the arrows, my friends.
See you in the game. Duy.
