One of the biggest mistakes I made during my first days in CoinRepublik was underestimating the Market building. At first, I thought it was just another optional support building that I could place later whenever I had some free space. My priority was producing resources as quickly as possible, so I filled every empty tile with production buildings, roads, and houses. It felt like I was making great progress—until I discovered that my entire layout had been planned around a wrong assumption.
Many buildings in CoinRepublik must be inside the area of influence of a Market. If they are outside its range, you'll eventually find yourself unable to expand your town the way you expected. This isn't immediately obvious to new players, and because the first days are usually spent trying to unlock new buildings and increase production, it's very easy to ignore the Market until it suddenly becomes a requirement.
The Market's area of influence depends on its level. At level 1, the coverage is relatively small, so it only reaches buildings that are nearby. Fortunately, every time you upgrade the Market, its area of influence grows together with its level, allowing it to support a much larger section of your town. This makes the building much more valuable over time, but it also means its position is extremely important. A poorly placed Market may force you to build another one much sooner than necessary.
Unfortunately, I learned this lesson the expensive way.
Because I had no idea a Market would become so important, I placed my buildings wherever there was empty space. I didn't leave any room near the center of my production area. When I finally needed to build a Market, there simply wasn't enough space available where it needed to be.
My only option was demolition.
I had to destroy several buildings, rebuild roads, place the Market in a better location, and then reconstruct everything I had just removed. Besides wasting valuable time, I also spent additional resources and energy fixing a problem that could have been completely avoided with a little planning from the beginning.
That experience completely changed how I approach town planning.
Now, whenever I place new buildings, I always think about what I might need several levels later instead of only what I need right now. The Market is only one example. As you continue progressing through the game, you'll eventually need to reserve space for other important service buildings as well, such as the Police Station. There may also be additional support buildings you'll want to fit into your layout later. If every empty tile has already been filled, making those changes becomes expensive and frustrating.
Instead of trying to maximize every single square immediately, leave yourself some flexibility. Empty spaces are not wasted space—they are room for future improvements. A town that is easy to modify is often much more efficient in the long run than one that was built as tightly as possible from day one.
Looking back, this was probably one of the most valuable lessons I learned as a beginner. CoinRepublik rewards players who think ahead. Taking a few extra minutes to plan your layout can save hours of rebuilding later.
So here's my advice to every new player: always build wisely, not just quickly. Keep future expansion in mind, leave strategic empty spaces around your production districts, and make sure there will always be room for a Market close to the buildings that need it. As your town grows, you'll appreciate having the flexibility to add buildings like the Police Station and other service structures without having to demolish half your city first. A little planning today can save an enormous amount of time, resources, and energy tomorrow.
