After the war update I started attacking, but I did not understand what the game was telling me afterwards. There is a battle report for every attack and it is full of words like conquered, wiped out, reinforced. Once I learned what they mean, I could actually see why I won or lost. Here is a beginner guide to reading your own battle reports. You find them in the My army section, in the Attacks tab. It lists every attack you launched. There are two kinds of entries. First, attacks still on the move. These show your soldiers marching and a timer for when they arrive. The battle has not happened yet, it resolves the moment they land. So if you just attacked, you will see this until arrival. Nothing to read yet, just wait. Second, attacks that already happened. These show the result, and this is where the words matter. Let me translate the ones I have seen. Conquered, this is the good one. You won and your soldiers are now occupying the town. You will start taking 10% of their production. Won, none held. You destroyed all the defenders, but every one of your own soldiers also died doing it, so nobody was left to occupy. You won the fight but got no town. Frustrating. Wiped out. You lost. The defense was higher than your attack and your whole army was destroyed. Nothing gained. Both destroyed. A tie, both armies wiped each other out, nobody holds the town. Reinforced. This means you already owned that town, so the soldiers you sent just joined your garrison there instead of fighting. Not a battle, a top up. Target gone. The town did not exist anymore by the time your soldiers arrived, so there was nothing to attack. The report also shows you the numbers, your attack points and their defense points, so you can see exactly how close it was. And it shows how many units you sent, how many you kept, and how many you lost. If you see their defense was bigger than your attack, that is your answer why you lost, send more next time. There is even a detail that tells you what you were fighting, the home garrison of the owner, or an occupying force if somebody else already held the town. That helps explain a surprise, like when a town looked weak but you fought a strong occupier instead. Reading these taught me more than any guide. When I lost, I opened the report, saw my attack was below their defense, and next time I sent a bigger army. When I won but held nothing, I learned to send a little extra so some survive to occupy. The report is basically your teacher. So do not just fire armies and forget them. After each attack, open My army, go to Attacks, and read what happened. The words are simple once you know them, and the numbers show you the truth of the fight. Since war is brand new, learning to read these reports early will make you better fast. It certainly fixed a lot of my silly mistakes.
