It finally happened to me. I logged in and a big message said my town was occupied by some player from another country. My heart dropped, I thought I lost everything I built. But after reading how it works, I calmed down completely, and I want to tell other beginners, if you get occupied, do not panic. It is really not the disaster it looks like. First, what actually happens when you are occupied. A foreign player beat your defense and their soldiers are now sitting in your town. While they are there, they take 10% of everything you produce. That is the whole punishment, a 10% tax on your production. Notice what it is NOT. They do not steal your buildings, they do not empty your storage, they do not delete your town. You keep playing completely normally, you just lose a tenth of your output for a while. Annoying, yes. Catastrophe, no. Second, and this is the part that calmed me down the most, occupation is TEMPORARY. The enemy soldiers holding your town do not stay forever, they die on their own after some days. When the last one dies, your town frees itself automatically, no action needed from you. So even if you did nothing at all, you would get your town back on its own. You just have to wait it out in the worst case. Third, you can fight back, and fighting on your own ground is free. There is a liberate option where you throw your home soldiers at the occupier, with no fee and no travel time because it is your own town. If your soldiers attack points beat their defense points, you kick them out immediately and your town is free again. So you are not helpless, you have a button to end it early if your army is strong enough. I will not go into all the liberation details here, other guides cover that, but just know the option exists. So my beginner reaction plan when occupied is simple. Do not panic. Keep playing and producing, you only lose 10%. Build up some soldiers at the academy. If your army gets strong enough to beat the occupier, hit liberate and take your town back. If not, just keep going, and they will expire by themselves and the town frees. Either way you win in the end. What I learned from being occupied is that defense is worth it, so I do not get taken again easily. After I got my town back I trained a proper wall of defense troops, and now my defense number is high enough that attackers go for easier targets. Getting occupied once actually taught me to defend properly. Since war is new, a lot of beginners are getting occupied for the first time and panicking in chat. I was one of them. But honestly it is a small tax and it is temporary. Stay calm, keep building, fight back when ready or wait it out, and improve your defense so it does not happen again. Losing a fight in this game is not the end, it is just a lesson with a 10% price tag. You will be fine.

Thanks for sharing your experience. I fully agree with what you said here. That red banner in your city's left menu gives you an instant feeling of panic. Just like you wrote: your heart tightens, and it creates that discomfort. You perfectly explained the steps an occupied city owner can take to manage things calmly and without heavy collateral damage. Success with growing your city! [Dutton]
